Carnegie Hill
Carnegie Hill is quiet the delight for the intellectual looking for a place to call home, due to its wide array of Museums and historic landmarks that fill this beautiful enclave. Located within the Upper East Side, the genteel neighborhood of Carnegie Hill whose boundaries extend from 86th street on the south to 96th street to the north is full of historic fortitude. Named after the mansion at 5th Avenue and 91st street built in 1901 that housed steel tycoon Andrew Carnegie, aptly titled Carnegie Hill is considered one of the most illustrious residential areas of New York. You may still visit the former dwelling of Carnegie which presently is home of the Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum, a branch of the Smithsonian Institution.

The neighborhood of Carnegie Hill is much sought after because of its reticent, well-maintained aristocratic nature. Museums like the Guggenheim and Museum of Natural History museums swarm the area, and are excellent for families and cultivated people. Costly, but oh so delightful, Carnegie Hill is filled with classic prewar buildings and tenements and stay true to the neighborhoods roots. However, aggressive development has brought an influx of high-rise apartment buildings for those who prefer a more contemporary setting. Trees are in abundance and bring an agrarian feel that separates the town like atmosphere from the hustle and bustle that comprises most of Manhattan. Sunlight is also generous for the reason that the magnificent coops of this exalted neighborhood are not too tall. The ambiance of the esteemed Carnegie Hill is calm and with Central Park right in the vicinity provides a beautiful rural experience in an always rumbling urban area. Brownstones and townhomes that line the city blocks preserve their original architectural detail; lend the perfect backdrop to this prominent Upper Eastside neighborhood that boasts some of the most reputable private schools in the country that were once mansions housing the affluent residents of this eminent settling.

This beautiful and quiet enclave is perfect for families that can afford it. However due to its family orientation theres not much of a nightlife here, although those looking to get rowdy can venture, over to the Westside or downtown to find a greater selection of bars, restaurants, and clubs. Shopping in Carnegie Hill is decidedly family friendly and offers plenty to choose from such as: Sarabeths which hones an American Continental theme that attracts residents and tourists alike, Sfoglia Restaurant for fine Italian cuisine, or the French-Asian bistro Table DHoute . There is a broad array of choices when it comes to gourmet cuisine in Carnegie Hill. This five-star neighborhood is charming and a great place to raise a family; it is truly no wonder that Andrew Carnegie made this his home.
